Shanghai Conservatory of Music President Liao Changyong and Deputy Party Secretary Liu Yan met with Ulrike Sych, head of University for Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), and Johannes Meissl, the school’s chairman of council.
A memorandum was signed between the two parties during the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, Liao noted that the two sides have unveiled an international chamber music center resulting from the last memo they had signed. He hoped that the ties will be further strengthened with the new memo.
The center is to kick off its first chamber music festival in September and Liao wished it a success.
Through bilateral exchanges on culture and professional knowledge, the two schools could grow and do their part in society, he added.
Sych said the SHCM has been an international music institute and the two sides’ cooperation can be traced back to 2007.
She said that the music festival will be well designed and show the infusion as well as distinctive features of Western and Chinese cultures and mdw is glad to push the collaboration with the SHCM forward to bring up more music talent and promote chamber music development by linking up European and Asian musicians.
